Lillian Dabney came to bookmaking through the back door by her practice
of lettering. She has studied bookbinding with Kitty Maryatt and Dick
Pio in Southern California and apprenticed with Joel Radcliffe at his
Ars Obscura bindery in Pioneer Square. Lillian is the founder of the
Belltown Book Artists which is a Book Arts Portfolio Group that meets
monthly. In 2004, she founded SCBA in order to establish a facility
dedicated to book arts in Seattle. When Lillian is not making books,
she is reading them and can be found most days at the downtown Seattle
Public Library volunteering, attending library programs and working as
assistant manager in the Friends Shop.
